A yid wrapped in his Talis, with his Tefillin on his arm,
Surrounded by armed soldiers, their laughter loud and shrill,
And I can hear them laughing still.

Late at night by candlelight, my Zaidy sat and learned.
Once holy flames of Torah danced, then other fires burned.
Now all that’s left is a Yahrtzeit glass upon my window sill,
