SOMEDAY I WILL BE- Composed by R’ Yonah Weinrib, Lyrics by Rebbetzin Yona Weinberg-

It was a difficult time for the Jews
Under the Roman rule.
They forbade the Jews to learn the Torah
The decree was harsh and cruel.

Rabbi Akiva was not afraid.
He said “Come learn with me!”
The people gathered all around him to learn
And forgot the terrible decree.

Mommy, Daddy, you will see
Someday I will be
A talmid chacham like Rabbi Akiva
You’ll be proud of me.

“Aren’t you afraid you’re going to be killed?”
Said a Jew to him one day.
Rabbi Akiva answered with a mashal
There is no other way.

A fox once strolled on a river bank
And saw a fish swimming to and fro.
The fish said, “We are afraid of the nets.
The fishermen will kill us, you know.”

“I’ll protect you if you come up on the land.”
The fox began to lie.
“We can’t do that,” the fish explained.
“If we leave the water, we will die.”

Mommy, Daddy, you will see
Someday I will be
A talmid chacham like Rabbi Akiva
You’ll be proud of me.

Rabbi Eliezer worked on a farm.
He covered his face to cry.
He wanted to learn Torah in the yeshiva
Of Rabbi Yochanan ben Zakkai.

He left his home with no money, no food
And traveled to the yeshiva gates.
He learned day and night and became known as
Rabbi Eliezer the Great.

Oh, Mommy, Daddy, you will see
Someday I will be
A talmid chacham like Rabbi Eliezer.
You’ll be proud of me.

Hillel climbed on the roof one night
To hear the words of Torah below.
His heart was burning with Torah learning.
He didn’t even notice the snow.

In the morning Hillel was found.
Please let me stay, he began to pray.
The search for Torah made him become
The greatest Tzaddik of his day.

Mommy, Daddy, you will see
Someday I will be
A talmid chacham like Hillel HaTzaddik
You’ll be proud of me.

Mommy, Daddy, you will see
Someday I will be
A talmid chacham like Hillel HaTzaddik
You’ll be proud of me.

You’ll be proud of me….
You’ll be proud of me….
