HASHEM OZ- Sung & Composed By R’ Shlomo Carlebach Z”L- Yisrael Betach Bashem

הַ’ עֹז
,לְעַמּוֹ יִתֵּן
לְעַמּוֹ יִתֵּן

Please G-d, give strength unto your people.
You know friends, sometimes we don’t know
Where our strength is coming from anymore,
Anymore.
Let me just tell you, maybe some of you know it.
There’s a yiddeleh who came to the holy land,
And he fought in 1948, and ’56.
And he had two sons, two holy, holy sons,
1967, one son left this world,
To sanctify G-d’s name and the name of the holy land,
And now, on Yom Kippur,
The second son joined his father Abraham in heaven.
And I heard the story from the person
who has to tell the parents
When G-d forbid the children die.
He said they just didn’t have the strength anymore.
They’re driving around the block five times and,
how can you tell them?
But regardless, finally, they made themselves strong,
They walked up. A chassidishe yiddeleh, a holy yiddeleh,
And they told him, we’re so sorry to tell you,
Your last son is also gone.
You know what he did?
הַ’ עֹז לְעַמּוֹ יִתֵּן
G-d gave him so much strength from heaven.
He took a little bit wine,
And he said, “Lechaim, my holy son.
Lechaim. I envy you.
You gave your life for the holy land.”
He said ‘Lechaim’ to his wife, “Lechaim Lechaim.
You were privileged to have two holy sons,
Who gave their life for the holy land”.
