BE A MENTCH- Miami Boys Choir- Composed by Yerachmiel Begun, Lyrics by Shoshana Begun- Miami Experience 2

When a boy just eats his lunch while learning Shiur, we say- not a mentch,
When we see someone disturbing, everyone will say- be a mentch.
It doesn’t really matter who you are,
You must try to be a shining star,
Can’t you see things just are not the same,
When carrying Bnei Yisrael’s name?

CHORUS 1:
Be a mentch, be a mentch, be a mentch,
If you’re Greek or you’re Belgian, maybe French,
You just simply can’t neglect,
Crucial matters to reflect,
That’s the key, don’t you see, be a mentch.
Do you think this is how you should walk?
Now be careful, and watch how you talk,
You just have to define
Where you’d like to draw the line,
You must learn how to turn into a mentch.

Shouting should be kept down to a minimum,
Thinking of your friends should be your rule of thumb,
Acting without thought or care is fine for some,
But that’s not what you’re taught- give it thought!

A mentch is someone who really cares!

CHORUS 2:
Be a mentch, be a mentch, be a mentch, (I don’t know what I’ve done!)
If you’re Greek or you’re Belgian, maybe French, (I’m not hurting anyone!)
Why’s it making such a riot,
I was being rather quiet,
And I like to do my work but still have fun.
How am I so much different from them?
Some of us are mere boys, some are men,
But I’m always here on time,
That’s enough to make me prime,
Know your case is just too feeble to defend.

Don’t you see your actions might just set you back,
Remember you must work until you get the knack,
The proper Derech Eretz is the thing you lack,
We distress so confess and progress.

And that, my friend, is a mentch!

Sitting in the teacher’s chair or acting without care- not a mentch,
Whether on a bus or train or standing in the rain- be a mentch.
Forgetting what’s around you- rather strange,
Doing without thinking- time to change,
When you’re not a mentch, it really shows,
It’s something that everyone knows.

CHORUS 3:
Be a mentch, be a mentch, be a mentch,
If you’re Greek or you’re Belgian, maybe French,
You just simply can’t neglect,
Crucial matters to reflect,
That’s the key, don’t you see,
Be a mentch!
