SOMEWHERE A STAR/UMATZDIKEI- Sung By Abie Rotenberg, MBD, Pirchei Boys Choir, Acheinu, Sruli Williger & Lipa Schmeltzer- Composed By Abie Rotenberg- The Event 5769

The age into which we are born
Is given without choice,
And where parents choose to live,
Their children have no voice.
So we must thank the One Above,
In prose, in song and rhyme,
That we were sent down on this earth,
In Reb Eili’s place and time.

CHORUS:
Somewhere, a star, now shines high in the heavens,
Telling the tale of whom it can be said,
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים
כַּכּוֹכָבִים
.לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד
Upon us all
And those who will yet follow,
Casting down its light from overhead,
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים
כַּכּוֹכָבִים
.לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד

He was a legend of New York,
It was an unpretentious fame,
Almost everyone knew Eili,
Or at least heard of his name.
The classrooms, camps; the music,
Were but his ways to compete,
For all the hearts of our children,
Making Yiddishkeit taste sweet.

CHORUS:
Somewhere, a star, now shines high in the heavens,
Telling the tale of whom it can be said,
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים
כַּכּוֹכָבִים
.לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד
Upon us all
And those who will yet follow,
Casting down its light from overhead,
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים
כַּכּוֹכָבִים
.לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד

His mind could see what no one saw,
He was unafraid and strong.
If Eili said, “I’ll make it work!”,
It happened before long.
And down his stairs, when night would fall,
How breathtaking the sight!
A myriad of Torah thoughts,
In little flashing lights.

CHORUS (ABRIDGED VERSION):
Upon us all
And those who will yet follow,
Casting down its light from overhead,
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים
כַּכּוֹכָבִים
.לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד

Alas, if we had only known,
How soon his final days would come,
We would have stormed the gates of Heaven,
Reb Eili’s work is not yet done.
But as the light of sun and stars
Will forever shine,
His precious legacy will last
Until the very end of time.

CHORUS:
Somewhere, a star, now shines high in the heavens,
Telling the tale of whom it can be said,
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים
כַּכּוֹכָבִים
.לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד
Upon us all
And those who will yet follow,
Casting down its light from overhead,
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי
וּמַצְדִּיקֵי הָרַבִּים
כַּכּוֹכָבִים
.לְעוֹלָם וָעֶד
