SHLOMO- Country Yossi- Strike Again
(Parody of “Ringo”- Lorne Greene- Composed By Don Robertson & Hal Blair)

He stood before the Aron door
Clutching the Tefillin he never wore
His hair was long but his soul, it burned
He cried to Hashem, he said “I’ve returned”
I asked his name, he thought a while
Used to be Steven, he said with a smile
Now it’s Shlomo.

Shlomo, Shlomo.

So I gave him a home, his new life had begun
And I taught him the Torah like father to son.
Then from dawn till late at night
He sat and learned by candlelight.
Day by day I watched in awe
I’d never seen the Hasmadah I saw
In Shlomo.

Shlomo, Shlomo.

The years flew by, his knowledge grew
His mind was fast, his wisdom true
People came from miles around
To hear the Torah he’d expound.
I took great pride in all he’d done
And thanked Hashem like everyone
For Shlomo.

Shlomo, Shlomo.

But often, when we sat alone
He’d speak of Israel as his home
He said he’d come to understand
The meaning of the Holy Land
And so at last, I understood
That I had done all that I could
For Shlomo.

Shlomo, Shlomo.

The night before he went away
We laughed and cried till break of day
And as I watched him board his flight
I prayed that he would be alright.
But soon came word about the war
And nothing mattered anymore
But Shlomo.

Shlomo, Shlomo.

I’d listen to the news each day
And follow every word they’d say
And when at last the letter came
I felt relieved to see his name.
He wrote of battles he had fought
And many nights I’d lie and thought
Of Shlomo.

Shlomo, Shlomo.

And then one dark and rainy day
The message came from far away
I sat there numb, how could I go on?
My only son, my Shlomo, was gone.

Shattered and broken
It came to me
I’d build a Yeshiva in memory
Of Shlomo.

Shlomo.

Talmidim came from everywhere
The sound of Torah filled the air
But then one day a young man came
With long black hair and soul aflame
I’ve come to learn, he began to explain
Then I shed a tear when he told me his name…
It was Shlomo.

Shlomo, Shlomo.
Shlomo, Shlomo.
