KEEPING WATCH- Simchatone- Composed By Yonah Weinreb- Simchatone Vol. 2

Keeping watch, through the night,
An orphan, all alone.
Now bereft of my life, still a boy, yet on my own.
Here in Russia, that’s the price that’s paid to be free,
Yet I see Hashem in sorrow,
.קֵלִי לָמָה, עֲזַבְתָּנִי

Is this nightmare really true,
I question in dismay,
Being branded as a Jew,
I fear each coming day.
With bitter tears in their eyes,
They were dragged away from me,
Oh will I live to see tomorrow,
.קֵלִי לָמָה, עֲזַבְתָּנִי

CHORUS:
But I still cling to the hope tomorrow may bring,
For my prayers may be answered at last.
A land, a home and a dream of eternal Shalom,
The hopes of my future, the dreams of my past.

As I ponder days gone by,
My tears gently flow.
Now I wander, asking why,
But the answer, I don’t know.
The watchful shepherd of this world
Why has he forsaken me?
I seek the answer in Shomayim,
.קֵלִי לָמָה, עֲזַבְתָּנִי

These Tefillin, old and worn,
Are all that remain.
Now despondent and forlorn,
They spark a dying flame.
Reaching up for the sky,
I yearn to be free.
There is still hope for tomorrow,
.נַחֲמוּ נַחֲמוּ עַמִי

CHORUS:
But I still cling to the hope tomorrow may bring,
For my prayers may be answered at last.
A land, a home and a dream of eternal Shalom,
The hopes of my future, the dreams of my past.
